ACI Scholarship Program
The ACI Foundation announces the opening of its student Fellowship and Scholarship program for the 2013-14 academic year. This year, the ACI Foundation is offering eight fellowships for undergraduate and graduate students, five scholarships for graduate students and one scholarship for undergraduate students studying concrete, through funds from both private and corporate donors. Construction Material Prices Inch Up
The cost of construction materials took a breather, while contractors showed slightly greater ability to roll past price increases into their bids, according to an analysis of producer price index figures by the Associated General Contractors of America. Donating to Veterans
A pavement repair company is donating a portion of its sales to an organization that builds homes for disabled veterans. New England Sealcoating Co. (NESCO), of Hingham, Mass., has pledged to donate a portion of sales during the next few months – up to a maximum of $35,000 – to Homes for Our Troops. Read more
Construction Employment Declines
Construction employment fell in May by 28,000, the largest decline in two years, and is now at the lowest level since last August, according to an analysis of new federal data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. The drop in construction employment comes as new figures show a 1.4 percent decrease in public construction spending restrained overall construction activity growth to 0.3 percent. Read more
