"Use of an S-elbow on a concrete pump hose can lead to a dangerous situation. Hose whippings are one of the more prominent and deadly accidents associated with the use of a concrete pump," wrote Christi Collins, executive director of the American Concrete Pumping Association.

Performance of the coating is 80% dependent on surface preparation. If the coating doesn’t stick, it isn’t going to work. Always start with a survey to assess surface contamination, looking for such things as oils, acids, salts, and other elements that will impair the coating.

There are several methods for testing the strength of hardened concrete. The two methods described here involve testing cylinders and beams. Some test methods are completely nondestructive and some are slightly destructive, leaving holes that are relatively small and easily patched.

The American Concrete Institute’s Spring 2012 Convention takes place March 18-22 in Dallas. The convention’s theme, Art of Concrete, will showcase the creative side of the world’s oldest man-made building material. The convention will debut a new two-hour session format which will increase the number of technical sessions and provide attendees with more flexibility in their schedules.
This year’s International Concrete Polishing & Staining Conference takes place Oct. 11-14 in Duluth, Ga.
The Polyurea Development Association 2012 Conference takes place March 26-29 in Orlando, Fla. The annual conference combines both educational and informational content with an exhibition hall.
