ASA Education committee meeting, training rule changes.
I am writing you regarding a couple of items that directly impact you in your role as an ASA Examiner.
First, at the most recent ASA Education committee meeting, two items were discussed relating to ASA’s position in Education sessions. The following text is excerpted from the minutes of the meeting at the World of Concrete.
1. Pre-dampened Material Requirement in ASA Dry Mix Education\Certification Sessions
The committee discussed this topic for some time and concluded on the following: ASA Education sessions require that dry mix material be pre-dampened. The method of pre-dampening is open to the Host. Safety (static electricity & dust) is one of the primary reasons for requiring pre-dampening.
It was also noted that the hydro-mix nozzle is outside the scope of ASA Education & Certification.
2. Minimum Compressor Requirements for ASA Education\Certification Sessions
This topic was also discussed with the following conclusions.
The general position is that it is the responsibility of the ASA Educator to explain the differences between different compressor stats and nozzle combinations. Generally, a 250 cfm compressor is recommended for wet mix.
The Education Modules Task group will meet to update the slides concerning this topic. The task group will also address highly accelerated dry mix and the impact of pre-dampening.
It was noted that the 250 cfm wet mix recommendation be presented\suggested for inclusion in 506R to ACI Committee 506.
Second, attached to this email is a sheet showing the status of each ASA Examiner and their recent attendance of ASA Education committee meetings.
Columns 3-5 reflect the required documents that we have received for each Examiner. If an Examiner has submitted all required items, his name is shaded in gray. If your name is not in gray you are not receiving the “Call-For-Examiner” emails that are sent for each requested ASA Education \ Certification session and are not currently eligible to act as Examiner for an ASA sponsored Education \ Certification session.
The remaining columns reflect each Examiner’s attendance at ASA Education Committee meetings. Please keep in mind the following policy that was approved by the ASA Board at the Spring 2010 meeting and put into practice beginning with the Fall 2010 meeting:
“Each individual on ASA’s roster of ACI Examiners must attend a minimum of one (1) ASA meeting each year (WOC, spring, or fall) or petition the ASA Board of Directors for a yearly exemption.”

Thank you for your continued service to ASA and the shotcrete industry.
