New ACI Shotcrete Nozzleman Certification Program Process Goes Live

ASA’s Roster of Examiners,

Thank you again to all of you who were able to attend one of the three conference calls to review the Board’s restructuring of ASA’s administration of certification and education sessions in support of the ACI Shotcrete Nozzleman Certification Program. To the few of you that were not able to participate, make sure that you spend time reading thru the policies and related material to develop a strong understanding of the new process and contact me with any questions you might have.

We are now ready to go live with the process. We expect all relevant information to be on the ASA web site this week. We will also begin issuing quotes for certification\education sessions by next week. Once a quote is accepted by a Host, we will issue a call for a session Examiner. That call will go to all our Examiners that are approved for the method (wet or dry), and who have submitted to staff the required 3 forms for 2011.

1.        IRS Form W-9

2.        2011 Examiner Employer Consent Form

3.        2011 Examiner Code of Conduct and Policy Sign-off Form

Please submit these forms as soon as possible so that you are eligible to participate as a session Examiner.

If at any point you have questions or suggestions, please contact me.

Thanks again for your patience and participation as we begin this new process. Please keep in mind that all of this is a starting point and the ASA Board will continue to closely monitor and make adjustments to the process as needed.

Sincerely,

Chris Darnell

Restructure ASA’s Shotcrete Nozzleman Certification & Education Process

Restructure ASA’s Shotcrete Nozzleman Certification & Education Process

On Saturday, October 23, 2010 in Pittsburgh, PA, during their Fall meeting, the ASA Board completed its six month long effort to fundamentally restructure ASA’s shotcrete nozzleman’s certification & education operations process.

The reasons for the restructuring were all aimed at improving the overall integrity and consistency of ASA’s certification efforts. The major goals of the restructuring include:

  • Creation of an environment that allows the Examiner to be as objective as possible
  • To move from “hiring an examiner to educate a crew and help them get certified”, too “contracting with ASA as an objective 3rd party to evaluate personnel for certification”
  • Minimize liability and work load on Examiners freeing them up to focus only on evaluation
  • Elimination of potential conflicts of interest
  • Documented and consistent process for work experience
  • Even opportunity for Examiners to participate
  • Creation of a system of continual evaluation of Examiners and ASA for ongoing improvement in ASA’s process
  • Creation of a consistent and even playing field for all parties pursuing certification
  • Same cost, rules, time line, etc…
  • Ability to communicate specific cost and time line for certification to those inquiring about certification

At the core of the restructuring is a change in the relationship between the Examiner, Host, and ASA. The Examiner is now much like a contract employee for ASA and will focus strictly on work experience review and exam administration \ evaluation at the Certification session. The Examiner is no longer involved the creation and coordination of sessions. The Examiner is also no longer involved in any financial transactions with the host \ contractor and will be compensated directly from ASA.

If you would like to find out more about the new “ASA Shotcrete Nozzleman Examiner Certification Policy” and its new process… ASA will be conducting a series of on-line conference calls to explain the new process and answer any questions. Please review the planned calls and let me know which one would work best for you.

-        Thursday, November 11 @ 10am Eastern

-        Tuesday, November 16 @ 10am Eastern

-        Thursday, November 18 @ 2pm Eastern

Please make sure to review the entire policy and its attachment’s prior to participating in an on-line conference call. I suggest beginning your review with Appendix A.

ASA staff looks forward to discussing the Board’s new process and working with you to make its execution as effective and efficient as possible for everyone involved.

Sincerely,
