302.1R-04: Guide for Concrete Floor and Slab Construction
Learn how to produce high-quality concrete slabs-on-ground and suspended floors for various classes of service. This guide contains recommendations for controlling random cracking and edge curling caused by the concrete’s normal volume change. Additionally, this guide emphasizes aspects of construction such as site preparation, concreting materials, concrete mixture proportions, concreting workmanship, joint construction, load transfer across joints, form stripping procedures, finishing methods, and curing. Flatness/ levelness requirements and measurements are also outlined. Available in hard copy or PDF format. $105.50 (ACI members $64.00). Order Code: 302104.EM.
302.2R-06: Guide for Concrete Slabs that Receive Moisture-Sensitive Flooring Material
This guide contains materials, design, and construction recommendations for concrete slabs-on-ground and suspended slabs that are to receive moisture-sensitive flooring materials. These flooring materials include sheet rubber, epoxy coatings, vinyl composition tile, sheet vinyl, carpet, athletic flooring, laminates, and hardwood. Chapters 1 through 8 provide an understanding of concrete moisture behavior and drying, and show how recommended construction practices can contribute to the successful performance of floor covering materials. This background provides a basis for the recommendations in Chapter 9 to improve performance of floor covering materials in contact with concrete moisture and alkalinity. Available in hard copy or PDF format. $70.50 (ACI members $42.00). Order Code: 302206.EM
360R-06: Design of Slabs on Ground
This document presents information on the design of slabs-on-ground—primarily industrial floors. The report addresses the planning, design, and detailing of slabs. Background information on design theories is followed by discussion of the types of slabs, soil-support systems, loadings, and jointing. Design methods are given for unreinforced concrete, reinforced concrete, shrinkage-compensating concrete, post-tensioned concrete, fiber-reinforced concrete slabs-on-ground, and slabs-on-ground in refrigerated buildings, followed by information on shrinkage and curling problems. Advantages and disadvantages of each of these slab designs are provided, including the ability of some slab designs to minimize cracking and curling more than others. Design examples appear in an appendix. Available in hard copy or PDF format. $92.50 (ACI members $54.00). Order Code: 36006.EM.

Masonry Structures Building Code Requirements
530-08: Building Code Requirements and Specification for Masonry Structures
The “Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures” is the industry consensus for design and construction of masonry structures. Among the subjects covered are: definitions, contract documents, quality assurance, materials, placement of embedded items, analysis and design, strength and serviceability, flexural and axial loads, shear, details and development of reinforcement, walls, columns, pilasters, beams and lintels, seismic design requirements, glass unit masonry, and veneers. An empirical design method applicable to buildings meeting specific location and construction criteria are also included.
This Code, Specification and Commentaries includes numerous changes and enhancements including provisions on self consolidating grout, reformatted and clearer seismic design requirements, revised anchor bolt capacity equations, and defined inspection frequencies of key aspects of masonry construction. This edition features “bleed tabs”, revision bars, deletion arrows and movement boxes so that users of the 2005 edition will be able to quickly identify sections that have been substantively modified.
To learn more or to order this document, go to ACI 530-08: Building Code Requirements and Specification for Masonry Structures. $100.00 (ACI members $75.00); Order Code 53008.EM.
